Meet Anthony Ross, Spellbook’s First Legal Fellow

Earlier this year, we launched our $1 million Spellbook Legal Fellowship Fund to support law students working at the intersection of law and technology.

After reviewing 151 applications from students at 61 schools, we are thrilled to announce Anthony Ross, a law student at the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Law, as our first fellow.

Anthony will spend the coming semester, tackling one of M&A’s most notorious workflows: disclosure schedules.

With global transaction volumes surging 30% to $2.6 trillion in the first half of 2026, M&A is set for a record-breaking year. That increase in deal volume means a corresponding increase in contract volume.

For most deals, preparing disclosure schedules means combing through every relevant contract a company has signed, one by one, to find what needs to be disclosed. It is grueling, high-stakes, needle-in-a-haystack work. But as Anthony put it, the actual lawyering involved is merely a "thin slice of judgment on top of a thick layer of hunting."

Drawing on his experience as a summer associate at Polsinelli, Anthony plans to build an AI solution that cleanly separates those layers.

His proposed tool will read the data room, surface candidate disclosures, and connect each result to its source language, leaving only the final judgment calls to the lawyer reviewing the results.

Anthony will work alongside the Spellbook team to develop and test his idea.

Congratulations, Anthony. We’re proud to have you as our first Spellbook Legal Fellow.
