“We've decreased our outside counsel spend by hundreds of thousands of dollars over a relatively short period of time.”

Alturas Capital Partners, a commercial real estate investment firm managing a $675 million fund and more than 4 million square feet of property, uses Spellbook to accelerate lease drafting, contract review, redlining, proofreading, and negotiation while keeping more work in-house. Before Spellbook, lease documents could remain in legal review for weeks and the team spent significant time drafting and formatting custom language; Legal Operations Manager Kirk Lewis said, “We’re known now for having the fastest turnaround times,” after Spellbook helped reduce lease negotiations from weeks to days and generate tailored clauses in minutes instead of hours. Alturas says brokers and tenants have noticed its unusually fast legal-document turnaround, and the company has reduced outside-counsel spending by hundreds of thousands of dollars by handling more complex drafting and negotiation internally. The team also uses Spellbook Associate for multi-document analysis, including identifying inconsistencies between leases and master agreements, while Review and Proofread help surface risks, liability issues, drafting problems, and deal terms that require attention. Legal Operations Coordinator Maddie Iseminger summarized the business impact by saying, “Time is money, especially with real estate.”

"Something that would have taken at best about three weeks, I was able to put together in four days."

Panasonic Automotive’s North American legal operations and contract management team used Spellbook to reduce manual contract work, standardize preferred language, and complete projects that had previously been postponed for lack of time. Before Spellbook, every contract was reviewed manually and standard clauses were stored in Word templates on a shared drive; Cicely Breckenridge said one of her first agreements took three days to review, while similar work now takes roughly one-third as long. Panasonic moved its standard and alternative language into Spellbook Playbooks, uses Spellbook to summarize and redline contracts, answer legal questions, translate Spanish-language materials, and compare agreements, and used Associate to build an outside-counsel RFP process that Breckenridge said would have taken “about three weeks” but was completed “in four days.” The team also used Associate to synthesize outside-counsel guidelines from about 29 companies, contributing to a standard 10% discount with firms that previously did not offer one. For contract approvals, Spellbook reduced a supplier-agreement summarization task from about 20 minutes to roughly two minutes by extracting key terms and changes, and Panasonic said improved summaries were recognized by senior leadership and contributed to Olga Bukowski’s promotion. Spellbook also compared bilingual 2008 and 2026 versions of one agreement and identified the single article that had changed; Bukowski describes Spellbook as “like my right hand.”

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I just use ChatGPT?

Spellbook is built specifically for contract work. It works directly in Microsoft Word, understands legal drafting context, helps review and redline contracts, compares language to market, and lets your team save playbooks based on your standards. It is designed for legal workflows, not general-purpose prompting.

Is our data safe? We deal with highly sensitive contracts.

Yes. Spellbook is built with enterprise security in mind. It highlights SOC 2 Type II compliance, encryption in transit and at rest, and zero data retention agreements with OpenAI and Anthropic, meaning customer data sent to those providers is not persisted.

How long does it take to get set up?

Getting started is straightforward. Spellbook works directly in Microsoft Word, so your team can stay in a familiar workflow instead of learning a whole new system. Trial users can get access quickly and start reviewing and drafting right away.

How does pricing work for in-house teams?

Spellbook offers custom pricing based on the number of team members on your license. That makes it flexible for teams of different sizes, from smaller legal departments to larger global teams.

Can we build playbooks based on our own standards?

Yes. Spellbook lets you create custom playbooks so your team can save and reuse specific review instructions, preferred language, and internal standards across contracts.
